How do you verify you have installed the drivers correctly. Thank you for any help. It not only emulates duplex printing for non-duplex printers, but also allows you to print more than one print job at a time in a batch so that you only have to remove and reinsert the pages once for the whole batch. It's is written in bash with a number of reusable functions so it's relatively easy to modify. I've been using it daily for over a decade with several different printers and am continuing to develop it. It will do almost anything your printer can do, but you have to tell it what you want each time which can get a little old if you use it a lot. It works for many printers out of the box. For others it may require manual setting. But it took some printing to get used to it. Then run the second command to print the even numbered pages: Your mileage may vary. If I connect the printer directly to my computer via USB and select duplex printing, the printer will print first one side of the sheets and then make a halt. A dialog appears on the screen asking me to flip the pages and feed them again to the printer. I can print without issues from any PC in my network. But if I choose Duplex, the printer will print one side and, then halt so I can flip the pages. But since I am not getting the duplex dialog in the PC, I can't instruct the printer to resume printing. I already tried resuming printing directly from the CUPS interface, but the job appears as completed. The printer has no buttons, meaning that I can't resume printing from the printer. I also tried with different drivers (tried both with Foomatic and HPLIP) but none of them worked. From the Foomatic webpage, I know that the driver supports duplex printing for my printer. Is this problem because the printer is being shared over the network. Or do you know a workaround for this. Thanks! Yes, I found in several forums the solution you suggested. Perhaps I have to fiddle a little bit more with the printer settings. It must be given thru software. A possibility is to use gnome-manual-printing, but I doubt that it may work on headless clients. The problem is the same: gnome manual printing displays a dialog asking you to flip the pages. I don't see a way how this dialog can be passed from the OMV computer to my Windows PC. Anyhow, thanks for the support. If I find something else I'll post it. Register yourself now and be a part of our community! By continuing to browse this site, you are agreeing to our use of cookies. It does not shake my desk, like an even older cartridge printer I also have. Smooth, clear printing is the result. Overall, this is a good, competent printer to buy, not too expensive, and one that will work well with an older computer. Reviewed in the United States on May 30, 2007 I agree with the reviewer who said it was inexcusable that HP still has no Vista driver for this printer. It worked great when I had XP, but then I was forced to upgrade to Vista due to other issues and of course the printer has been sitting like a lump under my desk for two months now. I'm quite unhappy with HP's timetable of releasing a driver by JULY. Come on guys, Vista was in beta for how long. It's not as if you didn't know it was coming. And I tried using the original CD that came with the printer to install on Vista, the way another reviewer suggested. I couldn't get it to work no matter what. For that one week between getting the printer and installing Vista, it was great. I would have given it 4 stars out of 5. Please try again later. From the United StatesHP's are quality printers. Foster 5.0 out of 5 stars The printer and drivers have been flawless for numerous Windows 7 and Windows 10 machines. The printer output is crisp and clear. Paper jams are very rare, and the innards easily accessible on the rare occasion that it happens. Finally, the printer is very compact, allowing you to utilize it even in tight quarters. Note that a large number of the negative reviews are due to issues with this printer and Vista. If you are running a Windows OS after Vista, you should be fine. Please try again later. GuyJeb 5.0 out of 5 stars I gotta say, for an HP printer.HP failed to make money of this guy. I've been printing for over a decade and still going. Seriously the best Personal Black and white USB printer i've seen. Never settle for an Inkjet printer when you can have Laser-jet. We've replaced toner probably 4 times now. Please try again later. Never had a problem; this has been totally reliable. I do go for HP branded ink cartridges, which may help account for its reliability. Please try again later. It is now 2014 and I have replaced the toner cartridge once since 2006. I don't print everyday, but I do print without worrying. It has a small footprint and prints over USB. It is not loud and it is fast. I have had several ink jet printers and have been dissatisfied with everyone of them as soon as the ink ran out. This printer has been a pleasure and continues to be. I just bought a wireless model from HP for my wife that appears to be the 2013 version of this printer. I look forward to many years of use from that printer as well. I will continue using this printer in my home office, where I don;t need wireless capability. This is a great printer. Please try again later. Singaporean Sam 5.0 out of 5 stars HP does not have any current models that use this size toner cartridge anymore. Its successor to this printer model (the HP1006 laser printer) uses the HP35A toner cartridge. There is a big difference though. For as long as I've owned this printer Costco has carried this cartridge. Also, the compatible toner cartridge for the 12A is readily available through Amazon at a fraction of the cost of the HP brand. This has really knocked down my printing costs for this printer. The 12A cartridge is rated to yield 2000 pages (compared the 35A in their more recent models which yields 1500 pages) Using a compatible toner cartridge, I now print for about one penny per page. I don't think that is possible with any other laser printer product. Please try again later. Jim in CT 4.0 out of 5 stars Sure, we tried refilled cartridges; sometimes they worked, sometimes not. Also, the inkjet was frustratingly slow, especially when we had a customer standing there waiting for their paperwork. The 1020 has roughly the same footprint on the desk as an average ink jet unit, the print quality is a bit better and as far as speed goes it simply blows the ink jet away. Of course, it doesn't do color, but that's not a consideration in our application. We've been using the original toner cartridge that came with the printer for a few months now and it's still printing just fine. HP says it's good for about 2000 pages per cartridge, or more if you use the 'toner saver' mode, which we're using. Toner saver reduces the print quality just a bit, but we're printing service tickets, not wedding invitations. One inexpensive laser printer is well known to crunch envelopes with frightening regularity. I can tell you from personal experience that the 1020 handles envelopes just fine. The print won't smear if your envelope catches a few raindrops on the way to the mailbox, like certain inkjets. The only cons I can think of is that it's just a little bit noisy and it's somewhat slower than the big machines in the front office. No big deal in either case, especially considering the price. All in all, I liked it enough that I bought one to use at home. Please try again later. Jerry C 4.0 out of 5 stars It's more than 4 times as fast as the HP 4P I paid 999 bucks for back around circa 1990 or so. The 4P lasted over 15 years. This 1020 is not built likt a tank, whereas the 4P might have been able to withstand a nuclear blast at ground zero. However, the 1020 is tiny in comparison, and I printed a 34 page document using the manual duplex feature of the printer driver in less than 10 minutes, including the time it took to follow the printer driver's directions in flipping the paper over. I was astonished that such a low priced laser was pushing a new page out every 4 seconds. (All text, by the way, no graphics whatsoever in that document. When I first set the 1020 up, I was near ready to toss it out in the dumpster as the long print jobs were failing. The new cable is a lot snugger than the old one was and it obviously made a difference. The feed reliability seems to be very good, the manual duplex feature works great, and it is scads cheaper than burning up those inkjet cartridges for non-color documents. Plus, the ink doesn't smear!:)Please try again later. B. Fay 5.0 out of 5 stars Since I don't print pictures, a black and white printer is sufficient. I couldn't be happier with the HP 1020. It's very compact (actually smaller than my Epson), unbelievably fast (though it takes a little while to get going), and the result is crystal clear. One important note, though: I'm a Mac user and this printer isn't intended to support Macs. But I learned from other reviewers on this site that you can solve this problem by downloading the printer driver from HP for the HP Laserjet 1022, which does support Macs. I did this, but the other reviewers left out an important bit of information: the directions that come with the printer say to wait until instructed to plug in the computer and attach it to your computer via a USB cable. But this is NOT what you do in the case of using the 1022 driver for this machine. Instead, after downloading the driver from ther HP website (which you can do for free, afte going to their support page), connect the 1020 to the power source and to your computer; then go to Printer Utility, select Add Printer, and the Mac will do the rest (it automatically uses the 1022 driver to support the 1020). Once my partner did this (I was in a muddle until she did so!), it all went very smoothly. For the very low price that Amazon is asking, now even Mac users can enjoy this outstanding printer. Please try again later. One was a Canon that could never print an entire page aligned. It took me till after my warranty was out to realized that it wasn't me, it was the printer. Sadly, the other was the HP5650, which had terrible software issues and finally started misfeeding the paper. I didn't know what I was going to do for my next printer. I finally came to my senses and realized that since I hardly ever use color, I should start looking at LaserJets. Much to my surprise, I found this one for less than many of the photo-capable InkJets. Unfortunately, my computer became a little fussy during setup, but after that, it's worked like a charm. The pages come out extremely fast, the print is crisp and dark, and it's not too loud. Also, the footprint is smaller than the HP inkjet I am now going to smash to bits. It's like a little chunk on my desktop instead of a big long log. What more could you ask. I still think HP is a cheap, crappy company for making us buy our own USB cables, and for not supplying a manual, but until Canon and Epson get up to speed on reliability, I'll stay with HP anyway. June 2006 addition --- YES there IS a problem with this thing curling the paper. The lasers get the paper warm and then there are 2 plastic tabs the paper passes by on its way out, and they curl the paper. Downgrade this rating a full star!! This doesn't happen on my friend's older business HP laser model. I am extremely pleased with this printer all the way around: price, performance, and appearance on my desk. Please try again later.
