To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzes reviews to verify trustworthiness. As I live in the Southwest, with some of the hardest tap water in the country, I like that it has a built-in permanent filter and a replaceable carbon filter. It also came with a permanent gold cone filter unexpectedly for no extra cost, so that removes the need for paper filters. Very easy to use, has plenty of options, you can brew your coffee regular or bold strength, etc. The carafe isn't the paper-thin glass that breaks if you even look at it wrong. It looks nice, works great and brews a mean cup of coffee. I'm sure the coffee tastes better too. Being a coffee snob, it was a very reasonable investment. I love the taste of the coffee it makes. I also like the fact that it will tell me if it needs cleaning. Hasn't happened yet. The thermos has a wide enough opening to get a nice size bottle brush inside to clean it. It keeps the coffee hot but we finish the pot in an hour or so anyway. You don't have to turn the lid to pour coffee out. But the issue is really with the thermos. Inside there is a stainless steel lip that indents quite a ways on the top. I'm guessing that is why your able to pour it out without turning the lid and it still keeps hot. The lip makes it impossible to use the thermos to fill the chamber with water because you have to have it completely upside down to get the water out. So I have to use a wide mouth mason jar. That really isn't that big of deal for me. The real issue with that indented lip inside is that in order to get all the coffee out you have to literally turn it completely upside down over your cup and then some of it will splatter from the upper lid so you have to be careful. In the end when you go to rince the thermos you put water in and rinse it then shake upside down a bit and lay completely upside down. It is an irritating issue but it makes a good cup of coffee. That issue will stop me from buying that particular coffee maker again unless it was being clearanced way down. But I expect it to last a long time like other Cuisinart coffee makers I have had in the past. This is a 2nd REVIEW so I am changing my star rating. I purchased this in Sept of 2016. It is now April of 2017. The cheap plastic hinges on the lid are terrible. One came apart already and the other will soon follow. No way to fix it. When that happens I'm not sure it will be useable anymore as it has to hook down to brew. Too much money to pay for a coffee pot that lasts 6 months without beginning to come apart. The pot has always sat in the same spot so doesn't receive hard use. One pot a day with an extra now and then for company. Cuisinart was such a great brand. The company will not stand behind this product now. When the last little plastic hinge is gone I will have to purchase another pot. I'll think hard before I ever purchase this brand again without being able to actually look it over.Plastic is okay in some areas but not as a hinge that is necessary for the working of the appliance. If you can't click it down it won't brew. I did debate when I saw where it was coming from. Should have listened. I can deal with the thermos issue as it still makes a great cup of coffee but the hinges are a serious problem. I will soon have to purchase another coffee pot. Please try again later. From the United StatesIt did brew 14 cups, and it was at the right temperature. However, the cons of this coffee maker far outweighed the pros. First of all, the lid to put the water and coffee into the machine was awkward at best. And in 6 mos., one of the arms broke. But it still brewed. Secondly, the warming plate at the bottom rusted horribly. I cleaned my coffee maker all the time, but still, it rusted. And lastly, the auto-setting button broke off. If you are looking for a coffee maker that brews 14 cups at the right temperature, and only want it to work properly for 6 mos., this is perfect. Otherwise, don't waste your money. Please try again later. Please try again later. RX Doctor 5.0 out of 5 stars This model and the one above it (3200, which was more expensive with no clear advantages) were both top-rated for ease of use and good tasting coffee. As I live in the Southwest, with some of the hardest tap water in the country, I like that it has a built-in permanent filter and a replaceable carbon filter. Being a coffee snob, it was a very reasonable investment. Please try again later. Please try again later. Jamie Cree 3.0 out of 5 stars For the reason I purchased this coffee maker, it makes the best coffee from any coffee maker I've ever owned. Is it perfect, no and I will explain a few tips after reading some negative reviews. I did a lot of reasearch looking for a coffee maker that will make a good, not bitter, cup of coffee. You need proper temperature and proper brew time to achieve this. Well people, read the manual. Both of those settings are adjustable. The auto shut off can be set to stay on for up to 4 hours. The hot plate has a few setting as well that if set properly, is as hot as when brewed for the entire time, until auto shut off times out. If I speak so highly of this, why only 3 stars. My lid hinge failed after just a few months. Cuisinart replaced it. Google it, it looks like an easy fix and I will be attempting to fix mine this weekend and the reason main reason I am writing this review. I am looking at the possibility of replacing coffee maker, if I can't fix the hose or I break it while attempting. It sounds like removing the base to locate the hose is not the easiest to remove due to the recessed torx head screws. It really depends on the diameter of your torx screw driver. If I can't repair, I will probably purchase the same one again because, as stated above, it makes the best coffee I've ever made at home. The price on Amazon is much better than what I had found a local stores. No matter how much or how little I've spent on coffee makers in the past, I usually only get 2-3 years out of them for one reason or another. Please try again later. Please try again later. Nayge 1.0 out of 5 stars I bought it simply because I was trying to find a coffee maker that could get up to the proper temperature and have some capacity (all the 195-205F machines have very small capacity carafe's; 40oz max). The temperature is cooler than my free Gevalia thermal that is 15 yrs old. At 3 cups the carafe is almost upside down to get the coffee out and spitting coffee on the counter. The last 4oz's of coffee cannot be poured out because the knuckleheads built the carafe with a wide diameter flat top. If you were going to brew a mug you'd have to put the mug under the basket and manually hold the valve open. You can hold the carafe upside down and shake around but the coffee will end up on the counter. So buy this if you want an 11.5 cup maker, and when you get to 3 cups want coffee on the counter. Please try again later. Please try again later. Addie 3.0 out of 5 stars The lid hinge broke in April 2016. The cost for warranty replacement would have been cheaper than purchasing a new one, however they would replace with the same model and after reading reviews we realized the lid hinge is a vunerable design, so decided not to spend the money, but to go a different direction. One other concern is the hot plate, ours bubbled up and started rusting after about 6 months from the small drips that I didn't get wiped up quick enough. On the bright side, it did make very good coffee (much better than the single cup coffee makers our kids have). Looks like I'm digging out the old stove top coffee maker for a while (maybe I'll decide I just don't need one of these new fangled drip makers)Please try again later. Please try again later. Matt 4.0 out of 5 stars Makes good, hot coffee. Had the usual concerns about the negative reviews but decided to give it a try. It does form inside the unit, especially since it seals pretty well with the lid closed, so it does drip a little when you open it. I haven't had any problems with it running down the back, and I usually just wipe the inside of the lid with a paper towel. - Rusting hot plate? Not for us. No issues at all. Overall, very happy with the unit after daily use for about 7 months. Please try again later. Please try again later. grover 1.0 out of 5 stars The hinge on the lid where you add water failed and you have to hold down the lid manually to get coffee to brew. This is our third one of these. The first unit failed in the same way a few years back and Cuisinart replaced it. The replacement unit failed as well. Several years later we decided to give it another try as we assumed Cuisinart fixed the problem by now. Nope. Same failure. The manufacturer won’t take responsibility: they told us to handle a refund through Amazon. Don’t be fooled by Consumer Report reviews that rate this coffee make highly. It does make a good cup of coffee. Please try again later. Please try again later. Bill S. 5.0 out of 5 stars Love the option to descale, though it isn't as intuitive in operation as I'd like. Please try again later. Please try again later. Rory 2.0 out of 5 stars I called Cuisinart to get a replacement since it was still under warranty. They sent me a new coffee maker and had me send the broken one back. This happened in August of last year. Just recently the left back hinge on the top broke off. I can still use the pot, but it will eventually be unusable. I contacted Cuisinart by email and they sent me back an email saying I would again have to pay shipping both ways. After I wrote the above review I called Cuisinart about returning the 2nd coffeemaker. I boxed it up and took it to both USPS and UPS. They replied that they understood about the shipping cost, but if in the future I need further warranty help I will have to return the broken coffeemaker. Since I am not going to ask for replacement coffeemaker from them even if this one does need replaced I threw the old one out. The new coffeemaker seems to have a better lid design, it opens all the way up so it is easier to fill with water, and it seems the hinges are better. The only problem we've had with the new coffeemaker is that the lid sticks sometimes and you have to jiggle the pot or use a knife to get the top to open. Please try again later. Please try again later. Al Sal 1.0 out of 5 stars I contacted the customer service people and they made me jump through all kinds of stupid hoops for almost a month before agreeing to replace it under warrantee but once I sent the the email NOTHNG. Do not buy this except for your most hated enemy as a gift to distract them and waste their time. Please try again later. Please try again later.
